Roadrunners Experience a True Beach Day at Santa Cruz Doubleheader

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Following their season opener in Folsom, the Butte College women’s beach volleyball team traveled to the coast on Friday, January 30, for a demanding doubleheader at Santa Cruz Main Beach. The Roadrunners squared off against Cabrillo College and the College of San Mateo (CSM).

Match 1: Butte vs. Cabrillo College

The morning session saw Butte take on the Cabrillo Seahawks. Competing in the heavy coastal air, the Roadrunners struggled to find their rhythm against Cabrillo’s precision. The Seahawks claimed a 5-0 victory, sweeping all five flights.

Despite the scoreline, Butte’s top pairs showed flashes of brilliance. The No. 4 duo of Logan and Burger engaged in several long rallies against Cabrillo's 4’s pair flight, while the No. 3 pair of Kaydence Babcock and McKenna Love—battled through before ultimately falling to the Seahawks' depth.

Match 2: Butte vs. College of San Mateo

In the afternoon, the Roadrunners faced a disciplined Bulldogs squad from the College of San Mateo. CSM’s aggressive serving and transition play proved to be the difference maker, as the Bulldogs secured a 5-0 win over Butte.

Coach Ed Jackson noted the improved growth from playing teams like Cabrillo and CSM early in the season. Jackson said, "We made some great adjustments from yesterday’s play in Folsom. I’m really proud of the team’s effort to implement the changes we reflected on yesterday. You could see a difference instantly in our risk taking and support of each other throughout the day."
