Butte Splits Doubleheader with College of the Siskiyous

The Butte College Roadrunners split their Saturday doubleheader against the College of the Siskiyous Eagles, falling 2-0 in a ten-inning opener before bouncing back with a dominant 7-0 victory in Game 2.

Game 1: Siskiyous 2, Butte 0 (10 Innings)

The opener was a pitcher's duel, highlighted by a brilliant performance from Jacob Cullen, who tossed seven scoreless innings while striking out 11 batters. Butte's offense was held in check, despite multi-hit games from Aidan Santos, Carter Imbach, and Alonso Rivera.

Nathan Brown took over on the mound and had some tough luck in his final inning, surrendering the game's only runs in the top of the 10th as Siskiyous pulled out the extra-inning win.

Game 2: Butte 7, Siskiyous 0

The Roadrunners responded in a big way in the second game, jumping out to an early lead with a three-run first inning. Santos and Grant Sonke led off with singles, and a misplayed sacrifice bunt from Trent Van Nuys allowed Butte to score its first run. Later in the inning, Imbach doubled home two more runs, giving the Roadrunners early momentum.

Butte kept the offense rolling in the second inning, starting with a Drew Carrington single and a Rivera hit. After a Santos sacrifice bunt, Sonke lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring another run. With two outs, Van Nuys walked, bringing up Jason Olsen, who crushed a home run to cap off a four-run inning and secure the win.

On the mound, Mason Ali delivered six shutout innings, improving to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Gino Marble pitched the final 2.1 innings, earning his fourth save of the season and third in conference play.

Looking Ahead

With the split, Butte moves to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play, remaining in a tie for the Golden Valley Conference lead. Next up, the Roadrunners will take on Lassen College in a three-game series next weekend. The series begins with a Friday, March 7th matchup at 2 p.m. at Butte, followed by a doubleheader in Susanville on Saturday, March 8th, starting at 11 a.m.
