Playoff Recap: Butte College Baseball Falls in Hard-Fought Series to Los Medanos

After finishing the regular season tied for second place in their conference, the Butte College Roadrunners earned the #11 seed in the 3C2A Baseball Playoffs and hosted #14 seed Los Medanos College in a best-of-three opening round series. Despite competitive efforts in both games, the Roadrunners saw their season come to a close with two narrow losses.

Game 1: Los Medanos 7, Butte 3

The Mustangs struck early, plating two runs in the top of the first. Butte answered quickly in their half of the inning, as Grant Sonke led off with a double and was brought home by Brent Gallegos. Later in the frame, Trent Van Nuys singled to drive in Luke Zuromski, tying the score at 2-2. Los Medanos regained the lead in the third, and although Butte narrowed the gap with an Aiden Santos RBI single, the Mustangs maintained control and pulled away late to take Game 1.

Game 2: Los Medanos 8, Butte 7 (10 innings)

Facing elimination, Butte came out swinging. A first-inning rally was sparked by singles from Sonke and Zuromski, followed by a fielding error and an RBI walk by Gallegos to give Butte a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners extended their advantage in the third when a Gallegos double and Santos walk were followed by a balk and a clutch Adrian Robles two-run single to make it 4-0.

Robles struck again in the fifth, doubling home Van Nuys, and the offense continued in the eighth with RBI hits from Drew Carrington, Carter Imbach, and Van Nuys to stretch the lead. But despite a 7-4 advantage late, Los Medanos rallied to tie the game and eventually walked it off in the 10th inning, ending Butte's playoff run in heartbreaking fashion.
