Butte College Opens 2025 with Convincing Win Over Reedley

In their first Friday afternoon home game in well over 25 years, the Butte College Roadrunners set the tone for the 2025 season with a 38–7 victory over Reedley College.

Coming off a 10–1 campaign in 2024, Butte picked up right where they left off. The Roadrunners have now won 15 of their last 16 games, further cementing themselves as a NorCal powerhouse.

Fast Start on the Ground

The game opened with fireworks when Niall Raby broke free for a 71-yard touchdown run just two minutes into the contest. Butte struck again later in the quarter, capping an 11-play, 58-yard drive with a 3-yard score by Dion Coleman to push the lead to 14–0.

Reedley briefly answered with a long touchdown pass to make it 14–7, but that would be their only points of the day. Butte responded immediately as Najee Dade ripped off a 48-yard touchdown run to reestablish control.

Before halftime, Lane Garner drilled a 36-yard field goal, and with under two minutes left in the half, quarterback Amare' Cooper connected with Dade for a touchdown pass, his second score of the day. Butte carried a commanding lead into the break and never looked back.

In the fourth quarter, Ty Webster capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run, sealing the 38–7 victory.

Defense and Special Teams Shine

The Roadrunner defense was anchored by Jeremiah Johnson, who delivered a standout performance with 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, two pass breakups, and a QB hurry. On special teams, punter Ashton Carr averaged 38 yards per attempt, consistently flipping field position.

Looking Ahead

With the win, Butte improves to 1–0 on the year and continues its dominance over Reedley. The Roadrunners now turn their attention to Laney College, where they'll travel to Oakland for a Friday night matchup on September 5th at 5:30 p.m.
