Bio

Matt Phipps re-joined the Butte College Staff in the Spring of 2023 serving as the Defensive Line coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Prior to Butte, Phipps was a part of the Fresno State football staff (2021-22) as the Special Teams Quality Control coach. The Bulldogs won the Mountain West Conference Championship and The LA bowl in 2022 and the New Mexico bowl in 2021. 

Phipps was with UC Davis football staff in 2020, serving in the same role that he had with the Bulldogs. 

He spent the 2018-19 seasons as a Linebackers coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Butte College. Before his coaching career, Phipps started his playing career at Butte College where he was a two-time letterman at outside and inside linebacker. He finished his playing career at Bemidji State (2012-13). Phipps remained at BSU to serve as a student assistant with the outside linebackers in 2014, and then three seasons (2015-17) as a running backs coach. Phipps received both his Undergraduate and Post graduate degrees from Bemidji State University
