Game 2
Siskiyous
The Butte College softball team ran into a tough test at home Wednesday, dropping both ends of a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader to College of the Siskiyous softball at home.
Siskiyous 5, Butte 0
Game one saw Butte struggle to generate offense against Siskiyous ace Kaelyn Lange, who tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Siskiyous took control early, capitalizing on defensive miscues in the first inning to plate two unearned runs. They added two more in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI double from Rylee Reasoner and an RBI single from Brooklyn Schmidt.
Despite a solid effort in the circle from Ava Garcia—who allowed just two earned runs over seven innings—Butte's offense couldn't find a rhythm. The Roadrunners managed only two hits, one each from Alyssa Thompson and Taryn Walsh.
Siskiyous 4, Butte 2
Game two was far more competitive, with Butte showing fight before Siskiyous pulled away late.
After falling behind 1-0, Butte answered in the fourth when Nyah Gee-Baker scored on a throwing error. The Roadrunners took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Alyssa Thompson, scoring Mali Evans, who had a strong game at the plate with two hits and two walks.
Siskiyous tied the game in the sixth before breaking through in the seventh. Maddi McClure delivered the decisive blow with a two-run double, giving the visitors a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Butte collected eight hits in the nightcap, including multi-hit efforts from Evans, Thompson, and Baker, but stranded seven runners and couldn't deliver the timely hit late.
Takeaways
Butte (12-18, 4-6 GVC) showed improvement offensively in game two but was hurt by missed opportunities and defensive lapses across the doubleheader. Siskiyous (16-16, 6-6 GVC) capitalized on those chances, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the sweep.
The Roadrunners will look to bounce back in conference play as they continue their homestand Monday the 13th vs Yuba college at 12pm and 2pm.
