Butte College Roadrunners Rally to Victory Against West Valley Vikings in Thrilling Match

Oroville, CA – September 20, 2024 – In an exhilarating showdown on Friday evening, the Butte College Roadrunners overcame a two-set deficit to defeat the West Valley Vikings in five sets. The match was held at the Roadrunners' Cowan Gymnasium, where a spirited crowd witnessed a remarkable display of determination and skill.

The match began with West Valley taking an early lead, winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-15. However, the Roadrunners demonstrated their resilience in the following sets, bouncing back to win 25-16 and 25-15, before clinching the decisive fifth set 15-6 completing the reverse sweep.

Outside Hitters #15 Hallie Horsley and #3 Koya Porter led the offense with 17 and 11 kills respectively. Horsley added 21 digs earning a double-double for the Roadrunners. #7 Kaitlyn Poblano and #11 Kaley Rawlick guided the team garnering 24 and 21 set assists. Both setters added a combined 5 service aces (2 by Poblano and 3 from Rawlick). Middle Blocker #6 Rylee Keim was the most efficient Roadrunner attacking with for a .313 hitting percentage, while #12 Abby Mertle added 3 blocks and a .286 hitting percentage. Both sophomore opposites/right side attackers #14 Zada Varner and #5 Audrey Jones added 4 kills each. Freshmen #16 Connie Huttman earned 11 digs for Butte.  

"This was a true team effort," said Butte College Head Coach Ed Jackson. "The bench was fantastic tonight. I'm obviously biased, but I bet if you asked any fan, Our bench's energy and enthusiasm was second to none. After losing the first two sets, our team kept their composure and executed our game plan perfectly. This victory was a testament to the entire team's resilience."

Next up, the Roadrunners will face Los Medanos College and Solano College for their final non-conference matches on Wednesday, September 25th, as they look to extend their four match winning streak.
